SO, I made a little change. Well, a big change.

I got my bangs back!

I've been missing them for quite some time, and with a little push from my boyfriend (who is totally in love with them) I made the hair appointment.

Blunt bangs make every outfit just look so much better. They're that little extra accessory that pushes each outfit to its highest potential.

However, they do require upkeep and styling. Which I don't exactly love doing. Most of the time my hair styling routine is shampoo, conditioner, brush, done.

Regardless, I still love them.

Summertime in Madison

During a leisurely stroll around the capitol with my mother on Saturday at the Farmer's Market, I began to take note of the fashion around me.

Madison is a city of unique outspoken-ness and isn't really one to be all on-trend all the time. I mean, let's be honest. We're in Wisconsin. We are not a fashion hub, we are a dairy hub. Farms surround us, not fashion shows. So we have to be conscious of our own personal styles, and that my friends, is something we do quite well.

While strolling around our beautiful capitol building, a few things really popped out to me.

#1 Madisonian trend: Small cross-body bags.

These bags are literally on every body, mine included. They came in an array of styles: vintage, turn-lock, hardware-heavy, simplistic, high-end, bright...

They were everywhere. And it's no wonder, these bags are the perfect errand-running accessory. They're lightweight, compact, and can fit your essentials without weighing you down.

#2 Madisonian trend: Pixie haircuts.

This style was spotted on the coolest of the cool-girls. Rocked with wayfarers and a cute sundress, the pixie cut went from androgyny to adorable. Seeing all these girls with their cuts made me want to chop off a few inches myself...

#3 Madisonian trend: Tribal prints.

On everything. I kid you not, I saw this print show up on almost every article of clothing/accessory from one point to another. From bolder prints on maxi dresses and high-waisted skirts, to more demure pops of the print on belts, wallets, and trims of hats.

#4 Madisonian trend: Maxi dresses.

I personally have a slight fear of wearing these dresses in the summer for fear of cooking to death, but apparently that was not on the minds of the 25 women I saw rocking them at the market. The temperature that day was slowly creeping towards 90 and the heat was starting to take a toll on all attendees, but these women looked cool and collected. And you better believe it was accompanied by a cross-body mini bag.

#5 Madisonian trend: Eco-Chic.

Madisonians tend to lean towards the more liberal side of things, and with that territory comes a environmentally-conscious way of living. It was about 8 out of every 10 people that was carrying a canvas re-usable tote bag to stash their pesticide-free finds. Stands carrying organic produce were literally everywhere, and business was not slow. We love our environment here in Madison. We try to do all we can to help; be it using these bags, shopping organic, biking, or advocating for change on the street. We are eco-chic and we know it.

Saw this on the sartorialist. This girl's hair is too perfect for words. The color, the cut, the slight hint of a wave... makes me miss my old bangs a bit. To cut or not to cut. That is the question. I have no idea who this girl is, but there's just something so perfect about this photo. I already mentioned the hair, but the casual-sophistication of her outfit, the child-like position, and the knitting needles in her hands. It seems almost staged but it makes the photo that much better knowing that it isn't.

Okay, so I know that I've been incredibly MIA from this blog and I apologize. But I happened to have come down with not only mononucleosis but lyme disease as well. So I have a lot of time on my hands. Roses Are Red is going to get a little re-vamping done to it. I'm talking layout, ideas, pictures, the works.

First let me start by apologizing for the almost two-month-long hiatus. Not cool, I know. I wish I could give you some detailed excuse as to why I have not been posting, but the fact of the matter is, I'm lazy.

Hey, give me a break. I'm a second semester senior. I don't put effort into anything anymore.

Finally, an outfit post. I know, I know. I've been seriously lacking. And I wish I could say it's because I've been super busy but truth is, I'm just lazy.

I admit it.

But I do have some very exciting news...

I am now 100% officially a part of the

University of Wisconsin-Madison Class of 2015!

Yayyyyy I'm going places in life.

Okay so I feel as if I need to touch on a very tricky yet very important fashion issue.

As a resident of the Midwest, I am faced with the task of dealing with (read: surviving through) harsh winters.

Just last week we were bombarded with a blizzard so bad it was nicknamed the "Snowpocalypse". Yeah. We got 16" of snow on top of our 10" already.

So what's a girl to do?

Is it still possible to rock heels and look chic and put together every day?

You bet it is. You just have to be PREPARED.

1. Don't be stupid.

Everyday I see girls who are dumb enough to think that wearing a tank top and a skirt is acceptable. It's not. Just because the groundhog said we get spring early this year doesn't make it so. Put on some tights and a sweater, please.

2. Don't be stupid.

(Hey, this is important, people) If you really want to wear your 4" heels make sure to keep them safely tucked away in your bag until you reach your destination. Instead, wear Uggs (they're hideous, but functional), or some other winter boot to keep you off your ass and your clothes from being covered in slush. Do not attempt to wear your stilettos in the snow. Only bad things can come from it.

3. Invest in a practical coat.

This may seem trivial, but sometimes it is overlooked for the sake of fashion. Some great options include a thick military coat (like mine from American Eagle (cheap and warm warm warm)), a faux-fur coat, or a sherling-lined jacket. Coats that are cute and warm are easy to find. Don't think you have to sacrifice warmth for fashion.

4. Socks.

Thick, knee-high socks are a perfect companion in these winter months. Wear them under your boots when trudging into work or school and then scrunch them down and wear them with your heels. You can't see it very well in the photo but that's what I did here. Smartwool is God.

5. Hats Gloves Scarves.

Truth is, not getting frost bite is far more important than answering that text or making sure your hair is frizz free. Just be prepared and keep a tube of Fekkai Glossing Creme in your bag for when you are no longer exposed to the elements.

Good luck. The snow may have won the battle, but we will win the war.

Winter is 100% here in Wisconsin. We have had a few blizzards and my car has already been stuck in the snow. Times like these make me wish I lived in California or even Australia. But no matter, winter is a delightful season filled with the holidays, winter break, good company, warm spirits and christmas cookies. When I'm not trudging through the snow with every inch of my body hidden from the outside world, I truly do enjoy these snowy months. Because if winter means anything, it means extra snugglin' and we all know that there's nothing better in this world than that.

Fortunately, I don't have to go crazy buying gifts for friends because we worked out a secret santa exchange. This is always welcomed by me because I am never motivated enough to get gifts for everyone. Tomorrow night we are planning on having the classiest of classy dinners complete with three courses, fancy attire and champagne. Or not.

But right now this snow is pounding down. I mean it's a blizzard out. So right now, my hopes are high (listening to some Paolo Nutini-High Hopes) for a snow day! We have yet to have one this year but I feel one coming on. Hopefully this doesn't jinx it...

So how in the world do you dress for this weather? This is something I try to figure out on a daily basis, but I've come to the conclusion that tights under jeans and the three-shirt layer trick helps shield my body from the bitter cold.

Tights under jeans is really easy to do (self explanatory) but it is crucial that your jeans are not too tight and your tights aren't too thick. Otherwise you won't be able to move, and that sucks.

The three-shirt layer trick is a cake walk. Start with a camisole or tank of some sort. Then you have options. Explore what can be comfortably layered. I love to take a light sweater over that tank and then have a button up (flannel, denim shirt, etc.) over it, folding up the sleeves ((like in the photos above)).

As for the shoes? I understand they are hideous, but Uggs do the trick getting you from point A to point B (you car to the school, work, etc.) but bring another pair of shoes to change into.

Let's be honest here, if you even attempt to wear heels with ice and snow coating the ground you'll end up on your ass so fast you won't know what hit you. Then you'll be bruised (This happened to my friend Carole outside of Biaggis. Funniest thing of my life... she did get very bruised though...)

So be smart. Drive safe. Have an amazing winter season!

So Thanksgiving is approaching and I literally could not be any more excited.

My family and I always go down to Chicago to visit our family and we all just have such a blast together.

MMMmmmm! I cannot wait for the delicious food.

Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole...

we have it all.

Our family tends to wear whatever to the dinner table, but I always like to be a little bit festive so this Thursday evening I will be adorning my amazing new jeggings (yeah, I know I gave in to the craze. But what can I say? They're the most comfortable thing...ever), my brand new Frye melissa button boots (PICS SOON to COME), a dusty pink oversized tee, a chunky knit sweater and a glorious scarf to top it all off.

It's so very fall and so very comfy. Also, theres breathing room so I can eat as much as I want and still be able to not look like a lard.

I'll also be taking full advantage of Black Friday shopping and get myself some amazing finds. Also, my cousins and I will be taking a trip to Armetidge (spelling?) where vintage shops are abundant. Last year at Thanksgiving was when I found my prom dress! So who knows what'll be in store for me this year.

I will keep you all posted with lots of pictures from the long weekend and fabulous outfits.

Black Leather Beauties

Black leather bags do hold a special place in my heart. They go with everything, they will always be in style and they are just all around cool.

Of course, I do have my fair share of black leather beauties, but there's always room for more...

These ones that I picked out are (expensive, yes, but totally worth it. Trust me, if I had $900 to drop on a backpack, I'd be all over that) really fabulous.

FIRST BAG: this might be my favorite of the bunch. it's cross body (love), has cool detailing, but is not so overwhelmingly huge that you feel obligated to shove your whole life inside.

SECOND BAG: this is the backpack. oh I do love this too much. it's effortlessly cool and can probably fit the majority of your schooling needs.

THIRD BAG: alexander wang. does he ever design anything I don't love? this is genius and beautiful.

FOURTH BAG: leather macrame is so epic. the detailing is quite intricate, producing a wonderful specimen. adding that to my hanukkah list right about now....

FIFTH BAG: be more perfect, please. I love me a good satchel, and this one just makes me drool. black leather, gold buckles, sturdy strap. I feel like my school bag just got some competition.

SIXTH BAG: simplistic beauty. the flower adds a dainty touch, but since is still bad-ass looking due to the material and the gold studs.

Now, go work on that christmas/ hanukkah list.

Onions Have Layers

It's officially November and that means that it is officially freezing. I mean, I have to expect it since I live in Wisconsin, but it doesn't mean I can't complain.

But I stocked up on warm winter things (sort of) to start me off.

I got a new winter coat. Military inspired and warm.warm.warm.

My lovely new ankle boots which I'm dying over, tights and of course, knee socks.

I have to be honest, I was getting very sick of having to dress for 70 degree weather when it was October, but now that it's down to 29 degrees in the morning I'm second guessing my previous wishes.

So how should we be dressing for this abominable and soon to be snowy weather?

L.A.Y.E.R.S.

That's a given. But the tricky part is doing it right and some people just don't know how.

The first thing you need to know about layering is that when you want to layer a few pieces, make sure they are thin enough for you to do so. Don't try to layer a bulky cardigan under a vest or a stiff denim shirt under a flannel. Keep em thin, and you'll win.

Secondly, you can mix prints. Don't be afraid to mix floral with plaid or stripes and navajo. Just make sure that they aren't both demanding attention. Keep one toned down so it sort of fades into the background, while still making itself known.

The last thing on my list for you all today, is that you CAN layer a collared shirt under a crew neck sweater and not look like a total geek. Alexa Chung does it, so why can't we? Keep it cool with super skinny jeans and oxfords or relaxed fitting trousers and ankle boots.

Street style captivates me like nothing else. I love seeing how people put together outfits in the most creative ways. Fashion is a form is self-expression (probably the best kind there is) and seeing so many people take it so seriously makes me so content with the state of the world. I pore through street style websites almost daily to get my dose of fabulousness.

I wish I lived in Paris or NYC or Copenhagen where dressing like this wasn't second guessed and no one asked what the occasion was for dressing up. Sometimes a girl likes to put on a pretty dress just to feel pretty.

C'mon people. I know this is Wisconsin, but please.

The thing I appreciate most from street style snapshots is the details in each outfit. The first one, for example, check out the belt. This girl knotted it in a way that defines effortlessly cool.

Impeccable cuffing of pants and strategic buttoning of shirts gives these outfits the extra oomph to make them just that more amazing.

The belt buckle in the last photo is so small yet it seems to add a vintage edge to the whole look. The girl in the camel coat piled on gold jewelry to create the sort of easy cool look London girls are all about.

So, soak this shit up. It's fantastic.

The Elusive Ankle Boot

My hunt for the elusive ankle boot has been long and unsuccessful.

Until now, that is.

This morning as I was checking my emails, I noticed a Refinery29 page about model off-duty outfits. Obviously, I'm all over that.

So I clicked the link and was scrolling down through the outfits when

BAM!

I see it. It's a brown ankle boot with buckles and rugged-ness. Everything that I want.

And... it's from Nine West. So you know it's not going to be outrageously expensive.

I shot over to the Nine West website and started avidly searching the page.

Scroll... scroll... BINGO.

There they were. In all their glory. And whaddaya know? They're 30% off too!

This must be a sign.

So as soon as I get my lazy butt out of bed, I'm ordering these babies.

I haven't been fair to you all. I promised two outfits per week and I've been miserably failing at that. This is an outfit I wore last week, which happened to be a stressful and hectic week (thus my reason for lack of posting). I've been so busy with college applications, work (I now have a job at DSW), and Hebrew.

Not to mention my three AP classes. You know, everyone said senior year is the easy year where you can slack off and no one cares. Too bad they were lying.

Not exactly a list that allows for slacking. And work, oh... work... has been draining. This is now my second full week and I've already worked three 8-hour shifts. Anyways, I don't want to bore you with my stresses of life. This is a fashion blog. So now onto the fashion.

It's been continually warm lately so I've still gotten significant wear out of my summer clothes but I've started to put a fall twist on them. I've begun incorporating darker colors and boots. These boots that I'm wearing in these photos are my entire life. I'm fully obsessed with them. They're from Forever 21 so they were about $30 and go with absolutely everything (plus, they're comfy, so I can wear them to work read: shoe hell).

I'm all about the military/worn&torn trend this fall. The jackets, the boots, the pants.

I know I'm going to be stocking my wardrobe with rustic-style pants in ankle lengths and neutral tones.

Urban Outfitters has been seriously stocking up on the footwear lately and its taking everything I have not to blow my entire paycheck there. Ah, hell. Who cares. I'm not buying anything else anyway, except food.

But the summer is fading away and I cannot leave my house without a scarf around my neck, so jackets are close behind as well. Shorts are being stowed away and short skirts are banished to the back of the closet, making way for tights, jeans, sweaters, leather, vests, and cozy goodness.

God, I love fall.

First off let me start by saying happy Labor Day! This weekend is supposed to be the last little taste of summer before we're thrown into the school year/ back to work. Too bad it's been about 50 degrees during this whole weekend! And at night? It gets to about 40. I'm not okay with this drastic temperature change. A week ago I was sweating next to my pool in 90 degree weather, and now I'm in boots and a jacket? Not. Okay.

Thank you, Adam Sandler. Today was the first full day of school for my SENIOR YEAR! The start of this school year is bittersweet. I don't want summer to end because this was one of the funnest summers of my life, but I'm excited to be a SENIOR and live up my last year of free public education. Parties, football games, homecoming, Halloween, Prom, all of it. The first football game is actually this friday! The theme is RED OUT so we're going to be a sea of red.

Too bad I don't own any red.

Any who, the start of the school year is always exciting because that means back to school shopping! I usually don't do the typical wardrobe overhaul, and this year was no exception. A few skirts, a romper (finally!!!!), cardigan, oxfords, heels, boots, and two dresses. But, they're all adorable and will get much wear.

Long time no see...

It has been about two months since my last post. Goodness, I'm behind. The reason of my prolonged absence was due to my being at camp/Idaho/Chicago all summer! I've been home a total of 5 whole days this entire summer. So posting hasn't really been top priority (obviously). SO it's 93 degrees outside right now. NINETY THREE! It's so insane and I love it. It feels like summer and all I want to do is be lazy and relax in my not-yet-open pool. But I still have a good two weeks of school left.

Boy did this year fly by though. It feels like just yesterday I was getting ready for my first day as an upperclassmen. And now I'm going to be a senior! My final year of high school is almost here.

Time is a precious thing.

As you may or may not know, last night was my high school's prom! I was in a group of about 14 kids and we all took pictures, went out to dinner at this place called Sardine's (so. good.), went to the dance for a bit, then went to my friend Maddie's house for a bonfire.

It was actually a ton of fun and I really loved it.

But anyways,

Well look at this. One new post per day! How wonderfully exciting...

Remember how I was saying that my friend and I were going on a fashion photo shoot for my photography class? Well it ended up being a big success! We went to my friend Cassidy's barn that was half-demolished and just played around with the things in there, then went to this amazing climbing tree in the yard and got some shots from up there! I must say, climbing that tree was a huge struggle. Especially in a dress. Don't try this at home, kids.

So out of the 300+ pictures we took we selected 4 that were some of the best so I could show you all! I really wanted to go all out because I mean, hey, why not? It's a fashion photo shoot and I'm the model/stylist. Naturally, I brought about 5 outfits and 3 different pairs of shoes so I could be fully prepared to change the outfit for any given location. Better to over-pack then under-pack. Duh.

The two outfits in these pictures were the only ones I ended up wearing due to time constraints (read: good light is limited) but that's okay. I still have my shoot! I know exactly where I'm going to do it too...

I'm not going to reveal any more details about it until it's done. And hopeeeefully I'll be able to do it tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, we're doing our class photo shoot tomorrow! So excited. I'm in charge of clothes and all my teacher said for guidelines was, "I'm thinking high fashion. Can you do that?"

Obviously, Dandi, obviously. I mean look who you're talking to here. HAHA just kidding.

But anyways, I must go due to the MOUNDS of studying I need to do for my AP exam on Tuesday!

SO, I just got back from my visit to the University of Minnesota, and I LOVED it.

The campus was clean, organized, and had about a million different options for students to choose from. I will definitely be applying there in the fall.

But anyways, summer is so close I can taste it. Just one week left of my college Hebrew class, and about 4 left of normal high school... bleh.

Again, I apologize for my prolonged absence! Only 4 posts this month?! Unheard of.

But, lo and behold, I am back for REAL this time. Even in the midst of procrastinating for AP's and finals and things of that sort.

So I return to you all with this:

For my photography class in school, we were just assigned a new unit. We have to choose 5 of the 6 options presented to us and one of those options is fashion photography!

So naturally, I was all over that. I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do with mine, but our class decided to do a GROUP SHOOT! This is where our whole class goes to a location (in this case it will be our school's track and football stadium) and shoots one or two models (in this case, two. Boy & girl) for a selected period of time.

I got a little too excited when we were planning all of this, so my teacher let me take the reigns on this. We selected a model, a girl in my class named Riley (boy model is still unknown), and the rest was left up to me.

Here's what I'm thinking for this particular shoot:

LOCATION: track/stadium

STYLE: sporty-chic

MODEL: Riley Woodward

HAIR/MAKEUP: slicked back pony tail & bright red lip

CLOTHES: all from my closet for the most part. athletic/athletic inspired, bright colors, feminine, slightly old-school, tight.

I'm emulating two spreads that appeared in Teen Vogue a while back.

I hope it'll be a huge success because I have a great image in my mind of this all playing out.

Plus, my friend Cassidy asked me to model in one of her shoots. :)

Prom Update!

So the shoes I wanted cannot be obtained... sadly.

Unless I wanted to get them through this ass-backwards way through Canada.

Pass.

So, I decided to move on from what I thought was my one true shoe love. But while I was amidst the heartache, I stumbled upon the most beautiful pair of heels.

They're called Steve Madden Trinitie Pumps in Red Suede.

So its the same color, but taller, and more beautiful.

They make my legs go on for miles. And with this perfect shoe-dress combination, all I need to work out is jewelry, hair, and nails.

But this is what I'm thinking (give me your thoughts)

Hair: Half up/ half down with bangs brushed off to the side and blown out but the rest naturally curly. ( My bangs are getting very long now!!)

Jewelry: Something gold. Probably keep my diamond stud earrings that I always wear, but I'll take off my lucky charm necklace ( wow that makes me sound like a 5 year old) and put on my great grandmother's locket.

Nails: either bare or a neutral gray.

MY PROM DRESS!!!

This dress was originally a vintage prom dress that I snagged at Brown Elephant (vintage store in Chicago) for $10! Best. find. ever. However, it was an awkward length and too small. So I got it altered and it now looks like this....

I really really want these shoes, but they are literally sold out everywhere.

So I'm still on the hunt for a good pair!

After 3 weeks of unexpected absence, I'm finally back!!

My EIE Reunion was a total blast. It was so good to be able to see all of my friends again, some I haven't seen since last June! However, my reunion was cut short due to a family emergency and I had to come home on Saturday rather than Sunday. Not too bad though, because I got plenty of time with my friends.

[Another reason I haven't been able to post is due to the mountain of homework I received from being gone so much. BUT, all of that is done so here I am.]

In my photography class last friday, we all took a walk to this path/creek by our school. I, naturally, forgot my camera, so I got to model for the day. My friend Cassidy took these with her amazing fisheye lens (which, by the way, I'm in LOVE with).

But the sun's been shinin' and the sky's been blue, so my spring wardrobe is out to stay. It's been consistently gorgeous, which has been a real treat. I stopped in H&M on Sunday and picked up three perfect dresses. One is in this picture, and two more are to come.

They just shout spring.

I know, I know. Don't freak out too much, but it is indeed an outfit post!
This is actually from a little while back and I attempted to edit out that craziness behind me that is my room, but it didn't really work out.
However, here it is.
Today is a beautifully fabulous day. It is beautifully fabulous for a few reasons.
REASON ONE: 70 degrees today. 7-0! Beyond.

REASON TWO: I'm in NOT in school, but in Milwaukee enjoying this weather!

REASON THREE: Today marks the first day of my EIE Reunion!!! EIE was a study abroad trip I went on to Israel Spring semester of my sophomore year. It was a 5 month long trip and on it I had the most fun I believe I will ever have. I got really quite close to all 120 people on the trip and have been having withdrawl from not seeing them on a daily basis. So, since this is spring break for most people (not me, hence why I'm missing school) a bunch of kids from my trip are flying in from New York and Pennsylvania, and we're all meeting in Chicago for 5 days of fun in ths sun. I'm meeting up with my friend Jake at about 5pm today to catch the train in.
I'm beyond excited. But, this does mean that I wont be able to post until at least Sunday night. Don't fret though. I'm bringing my two cameras ( Sony a-100 and my film camera + expired film!!!) so expect some new pictures!

Also, a bunch of the girls are doing a clothes swap so I'm going to come back with some wonderful new treasures!

Eco is the Way to Go

It seems that earth-friendly collections are popping up everywhere. The use of clean and renewable fabrics has proven to be more than a trend, but a successful marketing technique. Organic and recycled materials have also proven to be statement making and beautiful, not bland. H&M led the way with their Garden collection for Spring 2010. This collection is filled with gorgeous dresses, skirts, tops, and more all made from recyclable materials.

This new approach to fashion is, in my opinion, something that's here to stay. It is something new and fresh to today's consumers and something that jumps out as special. This H&M Garden Collection is definitely special. I have already gone to the store in my mall to check out the new pieces and was totally blown away. I ended up snagging only a large uneven cut tank as a beach coverup due to the money I had with me at the time, but had I not been short-handed, I would've grabbed all four pieces above, and maybe even that gorgeous pink ruffle scarf (also made with recycled materials!)

I'd say, keep it up H&M! Maybe they'll start making everything with recycled materials and organic cotton....

OK, maybe not. But hey, I can dream, right?

New Blog Feature: Etsy Mondays!

I decided to add a new feature to my blog and that is Etsy Mondays.

This will be a weekly thing where I post a

few items from etsy of whatever's on my mind that week.

For example, this week vintage scarves seem to be the object of my desire.

They can worn in a million different ways and can instantly update any outfit. No two scarves are the same when they're vintage, which helps add a personal touch to even the simplest of outfits (i.e. jeans and a tshirt).

So here are some scarves that I found on etsy that are definitely worth a look!

This 70's style extra large scarf can be worn just around the neck or even as a dress. The soft tones add to the Grecian feel of this polyester scarf.

After a few tolerable hours of traveling, we've finally arrived in Grand Targhee, Wyoming!

This is a ski resort that I've been coming to since I was three, except I couldn't come last year since I was in Israel. I think that's a pretty good excuse, though.

It's spring break and I cannot wait to hit the slopes on my snowboard. Hopefully I wont suck too bad since its been a while.... but, as they say, practice makes perfect!

It was a beautiful day today.

With temperatures reaching the low 60's, who could complain? Everyone was in a good mood and a trip to the local park (in SHORTS, I might add) was necessary.

And we went on the swings, scootered around, you know.

A great day. It put me in a summery mood, which then made me realize that there is about 3 months until summer!

So SO excited.

FINALLY.

An outfit post.

Yeah, okay, I realize that it's not full body, but all I was wearing on bottom were leggings and I couldn't set up my camera right with self timer to get the full body.

So this is what you get :)

Today was slightly less chilly than it has been (but still cold). So instead of decking myself out with hat, mittens, heavy coat, and four layers of clothes on top and bottom, I wore my favorite sweater (thank you LAUREN SOLOMON) with my favorite black leather jacket, and my favorite black circle scarf.

A day of favorites.

Oh, and my favorite Jeffrey Campbell 99 zip wedges.

I also set up the best makeshift lighting studio in my room today. Which, by the way, I'm very proud of myself for. I used my bedside lamp, the external flash for my camera, and the back of a poster (white glossy paper for reflection).

I'm still hoping to get nice, full-body shots in the actual lighting studio at school.

Topshop Unique Fall 2010

If there was one show I could choose to attend during fashion month,

Topshop Unique would be it.

After reading review after review and choosing my favorite looks to share with you all (which happened to be a very difficult task) I decided to share my thoughts on this work of art.

The runway was set up in a way that upon entering, you would feel like you are immersed in the deep woods. Leaves covered the runway and twigs and other foliage rested near the entrance, setting the woodland theme.

Since Topshop's shows are known to have an iconic front row, naturally people like Alexa Chung, Peaches and Pixie Geldof, and Olivia Palermo were there.

Even though the front row was a sight to see in and of itself, all eyes were on the collection. The woodland theme echoed throughout the clothes in every single look. Big, warm coats and covetable thigh-high cable knit socks showed the practicality of the collection. There were boots made for trudging through the wilderness and hair to match.

Coats, hats, and mittens made of faux fur (no cruelty here) put the cherry on top of an already magnificent show. Woodland animals such as bears, deer, and raccoons were transformed into hats for the whimsical look only Topshop Unique could produce.

A seriously great show. I'm already making a list of things to get for next fall!!

Nothing beats the beauty of classic black and white glamour.

The elegant simplicity expressed in these photos is truly breathtaking.

This particular editorial is from Harper's Bazaar in October '94.

I'm almost positive film was used due to the grainy-ness of the shots.

Ohhh boy do I have some things to work on.

Photography is starting to become a big part of my life. I'm taking my camera everywhere and just got a box of 10 rolls of film, 2 polaroid cameras, and my dad just gave me a camera case with four lenses for my Sony a-100.

So excited to do some serious work.

I have some upsetting news.

As many of you may have read, I am completely mesmerized by the new Urban Outfitters Lucca Couture Open-Back Dress seen here.

It was featured on the website and in the beautiful spring catalog.

Needless to say, I couldn't wait to book it on over to State Street to try it on.

Although I didn't go to the State Street store, I still went to one in downtown Evanston, IL when visiting family over the weekend.

I made a beeline towards the dresses and snapped it up off the rack. But, I had to try it on just to be sure.

And lo and behold,

it was the most unflattering thing... ever.

Not only was it very poorly made (rough fabric, flimsy zipper, barely-hanging on buttons), but in order for it to look good one would have to have DD's at the very least.

I tried on the size 4 since it was the smallest one in the store. The bottom part of the dress fit fine. Length was good and it sat nicely on my waist.

However the top was ballooning out and folding in all the wrong places. It took three people to zip it up because of the crappy quality (not a sizing issue) and there was just no salvaging this dress.

Even if I purchased it and got it altered, there would be no way to wear it if I ever wanted to move due to tightness.

Ahh, such a disappointment.

So, if you have the right body type for this dress, then more power to ya. But for everyone else, I'd say keep looking for the perfect Spring/Summer dress.

There is actually no way not to love the seventies. Free spirits, great music, and cool fashion. I love everything about it. This is the era when high waisted pants/shorts really emerged and caused a revolution of sorts. Everybody was finding their own unique style and expressing it in a variety of ways.

Music festivals, late summer days, discos, and being free.

Oh, and the hair.

Full waves, long and straight, either way it was gorgeous.

Now if only I could get my hair to look like that...

Spring Fever

Nothing seems more appealing these days than flowers blooming and being able to walk around my neighborhood without a giant parka on.

Even though I can't get enough of jackets and boots, skirts and sandals are calling my name. These photos from the recent UO Spring Catalog are emulating spring in a way that I envy. The clothes are adorable, the weather ideal and the photography is gorgeous.

I love this style of photography that's faded and has a slight vintage feel. Usually it is easier to obtain this with film than digital, which I will be working with this coming semester in my new photography class.

Also in this class, we have full access to a light studio so outfit photos will be much easier to take on a daily basis.

Loving it.

I can drop the $135 no problem.

You can go subtle, like caylee, and rock a necklace

or go full on like this girl from lookbook.nu.

Either way, I would have to say that I need more studs/spikes to populate my closet

(which is somewhat lacking right now since the big goodwill drop)

These skin-tight beauties are the perfect rocker-accent to any look.

This summer I scored a great pair of LNA's from ShopBop's fantastic annual sale for $10.

They are navy blue with black leather-look inner-knee panels.

I'm going to pair them with black rocker heels and a loose, oversized shirt.

And of course a giant coat with gloves and a scarf to face the cold.

Although I look slightly awkward (yeah, I suck at posing. What else is new?)

I kind of like it!

I got a different outfit photographed today in which I was wearing

all the favorite pieces in my closet

(which all happen to go very nicely together).

Boy oh boy, has this year gone by.

It actually feels like it's been going at the speed of light.

It seemed just yesterday that I was hopping off the plane

in Israel

For my semester abroad.

So there was four months gone.

Then summer came and went in a blink of an eye.

Then school started again...

and Halloween came...

and Thanksgiving....

and Hanukkah...

and Christmas....

and now New Years.

WOW.

Resolutions?

...Not that i'm going to stick with them anyways...

BUT, why not?

1. Do more spontaneous things

2. Make the effort to meet more interesting people

3. Go somewhere I've never been

4. Do something I never thought I'd do

5. (I'm quoting one of my favorite bloggers, Tavi on this one) Stop procrastinating

6. get a job? yeah like thats going to happen

7. and lastly... Smile more often.

So I have finally returned home

after a week of shopping and movie watching.

And as I fell asleep at 7:30 pm last night due to a week of no sleep...

I woke at 8 am this morning to a house still asleep.

So I figured that I would start cleaning out unnecessary junk on my computer

and I found 3 photos in a folder called "inspiration"...

Well, the weather outside is definitely frightful

Just watched Pocahontas today and now I have all the songs stuck in my head.

wonderful.

No but really, it is.

So as I was watching this childhood favorite, I noticed that Pocahontas's dress is actually,

You will be truly missed.

She was a true inspirational and relatable figure in the industry which is exceedingly hard to find at this day in age.

The had such a cool sense of style and a great career going for her.

Not to mention she was unbelievably gorgeous no matter her hair color.

My thoughts go out to her family in their time of need.

BUT on a happier note,

I decided that I should post this photo of my friend Jessica that I found when looking through my pictures from my semester abroad trip to Israel.

We were having a cook out/bonfire and Jessica emerged from her room in this ridiculous yet amazing ensemble of tie-dye dresses layered atop one another.

I snapped a picture of her while we were collecting wood and it turned out surprisingly cool.
